Mishima with Mahima Singh

Workshop on the technique of ‘mishima’, inlaying slip within a carving on a leather hard porcelain pot. Discussion around process, technique and creative possibilities illustrated by a slideshow featuring contemporary ceramics from around the world. This will be followed by a demonstration of the process using various tools to achieve desired thickness/fine-ness of line and finish of surface at various stages of making, applying stained slips/underglazes on leather hard pots, and finally tracing the process through the cycles of bisque and glaze firing.

The second half of the workshop will be guided student practice of the inlay technique on porcelain pots provided by the studio (optionally students could bring their own leather-hard pieces), using available tools and materials.
